On behalf of The Dialogue Society Sheffield Branch, I would like to take this opportunity to cordially invite you to a seminar by Dr Chris Hewer on Wednesday, the 16th November at 18:30. The topic of the seminar is “Family: The Building Block of Society”.
Dr Chris Hewer, who comes from a background in Christian theology, education, Islamic studies and inter-faith studies, normally visits Sheffield a few times a year for a set of seminars. Therefore, we just wanted to take this opportunity to listen to his inspirational speech, learn from him and have a chance to see our dear friends.
The seminar will be at St Peter’s Church who have so kindly opened their doors for the Dialogue Society to hold this seminar. The event will consist of two sessions with a short refreshment break in the middle. In the second session, there will also be a Q&A period. We aim to finish no later than 9pm.
Please find the invitation card attached. We are looking forward to your response. Please kindly reply to sheffield@dialoguesociety.org to confirm your attendance. Your presence at the event will be an absolute honour for us.

Chris says
Thank you to Sheffield Interfaith, The Dialogue Society, & St Peter’s Church for this! Family unity is needed more than ever at this time of engineered fear & division. Unconditional love, respect for all life, unity, service, & bravery, are major keys to the future of this planet & all life.
“One of the first things a family tries to teach its children is the difference between good & evil, right & wrong. One of the first things our schools do is destroy that distinction. Schools stifle family originality by appropriating the critical time needed for any sound idea of family to develop – then they blame the family for its failure to be a family”
John Taylor Gatto- Award-winning teacher
“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself”

“Everybody wants to be somebody, but no one wants to grow”
Goethe
“If you are a Christian, then live the Laws as laid down by Jesus. If you are a Buddhist, live the Laws as laid down by Buddha. If you are a Hindu, then be the best Hindu. This procedure is the one true Way for men of Earth to save themselves from their lower aspects”
“To put the world in order, we must first put the nation in order; to put the nation in order, we must first put the family in order; to put the family in order, we must first cultivate our personal life; we must first set our hearts right”
Confucius
“If you want to awaken all of humanity, then awaken all of yourself. If you want to eliminate the suffering in the world, then eliminate all that is dark and negative in yourself. Truly, the greatest gift you have to give is that of your own self-transformation”
Lao Tzu
“School appropriates the money, men, and good will available for education and in addition discourages other institutions from assuming educational tasks. Work, leisure, politics, city living, and even family life depend on schools for the habits and knowledge they presuppose, instead of becoming themselves the means of education”
Ivan Illich, Deschooling Society
“When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world. I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation. When I found I couldn’t change the nation, I began to focus on my town. I couldn’t change the town and as an older man, I tried to change my family. Now, as an old man, I realize the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realize that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an impact on my family. My family and I could have made an impact on our town. Their impact could have changed the nation and I could indeed have changed the world”
